How to Choose the Right Kitten

Trust Your Breeder

Choosing the right kitten is not always easy. The decision is often more emotional than rational—after all, it’s hard to resist an adorable little ball of fur! That said, the breeder knows each kitten very well. As breeders, we spend a great deal of time with the mother and her babies during maternity care, playtime, and throughout the socialization process. Within the same litter, each kitten has its own personality, which becomes clearer over the months. We strive to have affectionate, attentive mothers in the hope that their kittens will display similar traits. Even so, some kittens may naturally be more sensitive or nervous than others.

At Mon Chat Mouton, we not only share photos of available kittens, but also provide a description of each kitten’s personality. No breeder can guarantee a specific temperament; however, there is no one better positioned to understand a kitten’s character than the person who has been present since birth.

Before you make your choice, we will ask you several questions about your lifestyle, what you are looking for in a companion, your experience with animals, and your family environment. All of these questions are meant to help us match you with the kitten that will truly make you happy. It’s not just about appearance.

An active, confident kitten is often a great match for families with young children, while a more sensitive or thoughtful kitten may thrive with a single person or a household without young kids. A very vocal kitten may not be ideal for someone living in an apartment or condo. We truly care about the well-being of our kittens and take the time to ensure that each one is placed with the family that will be the right fit for everyone involved.
